BDA Level 2 Hands-on Certification Registration with Graybar

Course Description:

Connecting a Bi-Directional Amplifier (BDA) to AC power and antennas does not guarantee a successful Emergency Responder Communication Enhancement System (ERCES) installation. This class will cover the following topics: International Fire Code (IFC) and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes that jurisdictions may require, Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules governing BDAs, antenna verification, uplink optimization for signals and noise, the importance of a test transmitter and a spectrum analyzer, alarming, BDA programming, grid testing, and more.

The certificate issued will hold more value than just a piece of paper; a hands-on exercise and a written test must be passed to earn this certificate.

Tom Warfield

A native of Pennsylvania, Tom began working in the RF/electronics field after earning an Associate of Science in Electronics from the Electronics Institute of Harrisburg, PA. His career began as an electronics technician for companies that manufactured surveillance receivers for the military. Tom later furthered his education in Electronics Technology while employed in the industry, and achieved a Bachelor of Science in Electronics Technology from World College of Virginia Beach, VA.

He has held RF Engineer positions in the commercial cellular industry with Nortel and Verizon Wireless. At PCTEL, he received invaluable field experience in the iDAS and oDAS fields performing commissioning, CW testing, and drive testing. 

Tom combined his knowledge and love of teaching as a Training Manager, instructing certification classes – in-person and online with SOLiD, Fiplex, and currently, Westell. Tom has also instructed curricullum in electronics, required for students in the Associate of Science Degree in Electronics program. He is a contributor to the Safer Buildings Coalition’s "The Complete ERCES Handbook with NICET In-Building Public Safety Communications (IB-PSC) Study Guide". He has also received NICET IB-PSC certificates for Levels 1, 2, 3, and Designer.
